The XP80 is a 8-inch 3-zone snare/tom pad. The playing surface uses Yamaha's Textured Cellular Silicone (TCS) material, which has a unique structure that encloses numerous air bubbles of a precise size and frequency. The surface material of the TCS imitates the feel of a coated head.
Bubbles in the TCS head act to cushion the stickās blow reducing the amount of āsoundā produced when playing. And it absorbs the shock to significantly reduce stress on wrists and elbows.
Designing the pad with a floating playing surface improves pad sensitivity. This allows it to clearly articulate accents from ff to pp and detailed ghost notes ā all essential requirements for drums.
